Concrete steps

Equal risers, consistent nosing, and a landing that drains — the three things people notice with their feet.

Equal risers, consistent nosing, and a landing that drains — the three things people notice with their feet.

Steps are the least forgiving concrete on a property. The eye will not catch a quarter inch of variation in a slab, but a foot will catch it instantly on a stair, and an uneven riser in a flight is both a trip hazard and a failed inspection. We set rise and run off the finished grade at both ends before forming, so the top step meets the door threshold and the bottom meets the walk without a made-up last step.

Exterior stairs in this climate also need somewhere for water to go. Treads get a slight forward pitch and a broom finish across the direction of travel, and the landing is tied into the adjoining flatwork so meltwater runs off rather than freezing in the corner where the tread meets the riser.

  • We just had LSG Quality Concrete pour concrete at our residence. They poured a patio and a pad for a hot tub. These guys were great! Great communication and they did a great job. Don’t hesitate to use these guys.
